How to Delete Your Account
If you wish to delete your OpenRecipe account, you can do so directly from your account settings. Please read this article carefully to understand what happens when you delete your account.
Steps to Delete Your Account
- Sign in to your OpenRecipe account
- Navigate to your Profile page
- Scroll down to the Danger Zone section at the bottom
- Click Delete Account
- Confirm your decision when prompted
⚠️ Warning: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
What Happens When You Delete Your Account
Immediately Upon Deletion
- Your account credentials are permanently removed
- You will be signed out of all devices
- Your profile becomes inaccessible
Your Data
In accordance with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable data protection regulations:

Data Retention
- Immediate deletion: Most personal data is deleted immediately upon account deletion
- Backup retention: Some data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before being permanently purged
- Legal obligations: Certain transaction records may be retained as required by law (e.g., for tax purposes) but are anonymized where possible
Third-Party Services
If you signed up using Google or Apple, deleting your OpenRecipe account does not affect your Google or Apple account. You may also want to revoke OpenRecipe's access from your Google/Apple account settings.
Before You Delete
Consider these alternatives:
- Make your profile private: If you want to stop sharing recipes publicly, you can enable Private Profile in your settings
- Take a break: Simply sign out—your account will be here when you return
- Export your data: Before deleting, you may want to download your recipes and data
